The Quiet Before the Storm

Well, this week has been pretty unexciting as far as major events go, but I am appreciative actually because this next transfer is going to be booked nearly solid with traveling and meetings. This week has been pretty crazy for the missions of Korea though. As some of you may have heard, with the huge increase in missionaries coming, the Church made a lot of new missions throughout the world. One of those missions is the Seoul South mission. Before, there were only 3 missions in Korea. Daejeon, Seoul and Pusan. Well, with the creation of this week, parts of the Seoul mission and my mission (the Daejeon mission) got dissolved and were used to create the new Seoul South Mission. This transfer that just barely happened was the official switch. So some missionaries, who were in Daejeon mission last week, are now in a completely different mission, even though they stayed in the same place. Geographically, my area is in the middle of Korea. In fact, my area touches all 3 of the other missions now, but I stayed in Daejeon Mission. So that was part 1, part 2 is next week, we get a new mission president because the mission president right now has just finished his 3rd year. Our new mission president will be President Shin who, fun fact, was my MTC branch president. So I already know him! Cool beans :)
So, because our mission president is leaving, this week all of the missionaries will go to Daejeon over 2 days to have one last Mission Tour with President Furniss. Then, the next week will be combined district meeting again in Cheonan, then the week following will be normal. The week after that will be another Mission Tour to meet the new mission president, then the following week will be Zone Conference in Cheongju (the city I stayed in as my halfway point to Combined District meeting) and then the week after that will be transfer week again. Woah.. So if I thought I was traveling a lot before, this upcoming transfer is just going to blow that out of the water.
So now that you have my itinerary for the next 6 weeks (sorry about that :P) let me tell you about my week!
So, this last week was actually pretty slow. We weren't able to teach any of our investigators because they all had other obligations and couldn't meet us. So our week was filled with contacting and trying to find new ways to get the work moving here in Jecheon. To answer your question, yes I AM about 5 shades tanner now. The best part about it? The missionary tan lines. I have a neon white patch of skin on my wrist where my watch is, and then a solid collar line all around my neck. I don't have the farmers tan on my shoulders for some reason, but anyway everytime I look in the mirror I get a craving for cookies and cream ice cream. :)
Also, this Sunday we had branch conference. 45 people came to church! Wahool! That's a record. So sad, but so true. Unfortunately 1/5 of them were from the Stake, so it didn't really count... Anyway, during the meeting, the sisters in the branch were going to do a musical number. When it came time for them to go up and do it, I was watching them when all of a sudden, one of the sisters started beckoning me to come up with them. I had no prior notification that this was happening. Had I known, I would have worn a nicer tie. Turns, out they needed me to accompany. Uh oh... So, without having been able to practice, they sang a special version of 주여 이 밤 나와 함께 (Abide with Me Tis Eventide). It actually went really well! Then we had a giant lunch afterward, Mmm. It was so yummy!! 3 different kinds of Kimchi, pork, cow-meat (It's not really beef, but it's not really steak, so I will just call it cow meat) and some chicken, along with a lot of other yummy stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have much time left, AKA I don't have any time left, so I have to end things here. Life is good, the church is true and don't believe what anyone tells you about Kimchi. It's delicious!! :)

Love you all,
Elder Jakob Tyler Fund
