So, this week, I was only in my own area for a period of about 24 hours tops. We have been traveling again this week. (surprise surprise, right?) We went to Chungju for our district meeting, and then right after started a split. I stayed in Chungju while my companion went back to Jecheon with one of the Chungju elders. During our split, the district leader and I had an appointment at the college in their city. They have set up a program with 4 college students there to teach some english and then share the gospel afterward. I had never met them before but he told me that they all had baptismal dates. They were really cool and even though it was four young male college students, they listened to the message well. It was really fun to get to know them, but sad that I could only teach them the one time.
The next day we came to Jecheon to meet back up with our companions, only to find them stuck in a street contact with a Jehovah's Witness missionary. Turns out they had been talking to that guy for about an hour and a half. When they finally ended, they said that the guy wants to meet us again (me and Elder Lee since he lives in Jecheon) and "talk" more. So far on my mission I haven't had any sort of "bible bashing" experience. That's really not how I want to teach people the gospel. Now, I don't know if that is necessarily what this guy wants to do, but in any case, not to fight, but for informational purposes, I have been doing some research on their beliefs. One of the Chungju missionaries had taught a Jehovah's witness in his first area and had a book he had receieved that explained their basic beliefs. It was so interesting. The point I am trying to get at is not to bash their or anyone elses beliefs. But just reading through some things in that book, it was the first real taste I got of another church believing they were the true church. I had always kind of figured that people who went to other churches, went because they liked what was taught there and if they didn't go to our church it was just because they didn't like some of the things we taught or something. I know it sounds ignorant, but it had never occured to me that another church thought they were COMPLETELY correct. Even though me reading through it I could clearly see things they were missing, they seem to be content with the bridges and compromises they have made to tie up their loose ends. So all in all, it's been an interesting experience.
Anyway, we had to travel again on the weekend to go to general conference, which was amazing. I don't have my notes in front of me to relay to you my favorites, but just know, it was fantastic. Even though you all already saw it a week ago.... After the sunday sessions were over, there was a baptism. So that was lucky that we got to go :) And, yeah that was a really quick version of my week.
Have a good week everyone. I gotta hop off!
